About Me.

Welcome!
My name is Kristy Hu, and this website is a gathering place for original writings, ministry resources, and reflections cultivated during my time at Luther Seminary, where I earned a Master of Arts in Children, Youth, and Family Ministry. I have been a mission developer, musician, and passionate advocate for intergenerational, multicultural, and faith-at-home discipleship.
With over 15 years of experience in the mission field—including international student ministry, children’s choir leadership, piano teaching, young adults fellowship, young families ministry, Sunday School teaching, children, youth, and family ministry, as well as serving as a musician and pastor’s wife—I’ve witnessed firsthand the deep longing families carry for a faith that feels real. Not just something spoken, but something seen, heard, and lived in the sacred ordinary of everyday life.
I currently live in Seattle, Washington, where I’m developing a Spirit-led movement called Rooted Together—a vision for Christ-centered faith that begins at home and blossoms in community. This ministry seeks to reclaim the home as sacred ground: a place of worship, belonging, and transformation that reflects the beautiful diversity of God’s Kingdom across generations and cultures.
My calling is to help families reconnect with God’s presence through rhythms of Scripture, prayer, creativity, and hospitality—around the dinner table, during nature walks, through music and storytelling, or in quiet, grace-filled moments. In a world marked by secularism, anxiety, and disconnection, I believe God is inviting us to reimagine church—not just as a building we go to, but as a life we live. Rooted in Christ. Extending from home to the world. As a student in the Children, Youth, and Family Ministry program at Luther Seminary, I was formed to lead ministry that is theologically grounded, emotionally attuned, and culturally responsive. The program equips leaders to walk alongside families through every season of life—nurturing spiritual growth, cultivating intergenerational connection, and addressing real-life questions with compassion and authenticity.
A formative part of my journey was studying with Dr. Andrew Root, whose work on secularism, relational ministry, and the search for meaning has deeply shaped my vision of how faith is formed in today’s world. His insights continue to inspire me to create ministries where the gospel is not only proclaimed but embodied—in our homes, relationships, and daily rhythms. This journey has strengthened my pastoral imagination and reaffirmed my conviction: that families—no matter how weary or scattered—can become rooted in love, renewed by grace, and restored through Christ.

Luther Seminary
The CYF program at Luther Seminary prepares leaders to walk alongside children, youth, and families in a world that’s rapidly changing. Through courses in theology, cultural analysis, and practical ministry, students learn how to nurture lifelong faith, create intergenerational community, and respond to the real questions families face today. The program emphasizes spiritual formation, relational leadership, and contextual ministry practices.
